Teaching

My approach to teaching has been shaped by my experiences as an instructor, my prior professional work in public policy and community development, and my own distinct educational background.

I have taught as a faculty instructor or teaching assistant at five institutions: Cal Lutheran University, a liberal arts university federally recognized as an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI); Pomona College, an elite liberal arts undergraduate institution; the University of Southern California, my doctoral institution; Glendale Community College, one of the most diverse higher educational institutions in California; and the University of Pittsburgh, one of the top public higher education institutions in the country and where I earned my master’s degree.

Over the course of these experiences, I have been fortunate to engage with students from a broad range of personal histories, learning abilities, and academic backgrounds, which have shaped my teaching philosophy.

Courses Taught:

        • The Politics of Race and Ethnicity
        • Immigration Politics and Policy
        • Research Methods
        • California Politics and Policy
        • American Political Institutions
